You’ll work with us and only us, guaranteed. We’ll provide recommendations and design ideas that meet safety requirements and optimise the area in and around your pool.
Engaging with us before construction begins is essential to ensure the necessary structures are in place during the setout and construction phases.
Mounting and installation types.
Frameless glass pool fences are mounted in many different ways depending on the mounting surface, the design intent, safety factors and budget considerations. There isn’t a one size fits all approach, so we’ll work with you to find the best possible option to suit your needs.
The most common installation type for a pool fence is to mount the glass in spigots. Other alternatives include channel fixing and side/face fixing.
Core-drilled spigots
This is one of the most common methods to secure your glass pool fence. Spigots are small ‘feet’ attached to the bottom of the glass and provide the necessary support to hold the glass in place. Core drilling involves cutting a deep round hole in an existing concrete slab.
The base of the spigot is placed into the hole, and non-shrink structural grout secures the spigot in place. This method is ideal in any situation with a slab or concrete base with a depth of 200mm or more. Glass pool fences with core-drilled spigots offer exceptional longevity.
Surface-mounted spigots
The other option when working with surfaces that don’t offer a concrete slab or base, such as decks or timber-framed surfaces.
Surface mount spigots have a thick base and are fixed with long screws through the spigot base into the existing structure, be it timber, tile or steel.
Surface mount spigots are commonly used for pool fences where the slab around the pool is very narrow.
Channel mount
Another way to secure your frameless glass pool fence is to set it into a channel. The channel can be created by forming a rebate in the concrete slab during construction or with a prefabricated aluminium channel bolted down to the surface around your pool.
Using a channel system for your frameless glass pool fence requires some consultation in the planning phase, as many factors must be considered before construction begins.
Side fixed/face fixing
Another way to mount a frameless glass pool fence is to the side or face of the pool area. This changes the position of the glass and is typically employed when there isn’t sufficient space or to use spigots, where the shape or structure doesn’t provide enough fixing points or as a design preference.
To side fixe/face a glass pool fence, a threaded rod is secured into the existing concrete slab or framing and glass is secured with round buttons or caps to hold it in place.
Top rails
Are not required for frameless glass pool fencing unless there is a drop greater than one metre from the finished floor height around the pool to the ground below.
In this case, your pool fence also acts as a balustrade to provide a safety barrier to protect against falls. With this in mind, your glass pool fence must meet the compliance requirements for pool fences and glass balustrades.
Glass gates and hardware
Infinity Glass supplies 12mm, A-grade toughened safety glass gates on all our pool fences. As an industry leader, we use only soft-close gate hinges and stainless steel latches.
Soft close hinges reduce the speed of the gate before it latches closed, minimising sound and vibration. Stainless steel latches offer the greatest strength and longevity against years spent in the Australian climate.
ClearShield® Glass Protection.
ClearShield® is a one time, permanent glass coating that repels dirt, grime and bacteria whilst reducing cleaning frequency by up to 80%. It promotes a hygienic environment, extends glass life and saves money by eliminating the need for chemical sprays and harsh cleaning products.
Glass types.
Standard clear
A grade 12mm thick toughened safety glass. The most commonly used glass for frameless pool fences.n Standard clear glass has a slight green hue and darkish edges.
